I replied the other day to someone and said to spend $ on something else besides extrude hone on the intake plenum but the msg scrolled off before I got to reply again - I apologize, I don't appreciate it when others make suggestions but aren't available for the follow-up, so I wanted to reply in a new thread. Here's a link: Original Thread Anyway, here's the reason I said what I said. First of all, he said in conjunction with Sport 500's. As you know, the JWT turbos are a big mystery but my personal theory is a Sport 500 is the stock housings with T25 wheels on both sides in modest trim. There's alot of other places money can be spent here. Also, there are maybe 5 Z's on the board that would even benefit from an extrude honed intake plenum. If you look at the plenum, for one thing, it is very generous and will flow alot without modification. The other thing is, the butts for the throttle bodies are about half the diameter of the rest of the side runner - *definiately* the bottleneck. Consider the stock throttle bodies can flow in excess of 700hp - and these are the bottle neck in the plenum assembly, the rest of it definitely does not need to be massaged until you've maxed a set of ported TB's and ported the butt-plate behind the TB's out larger - Even then, the restriction still is the TB's and front of the plenum (I believe bored TB's are 3mm over - a drop in the bucket compared to what the rest of the plenum will flow. As far as the polishing/smoothing effect, extrude definitely does this - You're going to get varying theories if this is good or not, some believe a slightly rough intake tract encourages better atomization and swirl when it mixes with fuel. *shrug* we could probably argue that one all day. If you're at the point the stock plenum won't flow enough, you're probably at the point you want to pay to have a sheet metal one manufactured - ours is huge. This isn't a slander against Extrude hone. I think its an *excellent* process. I'm sending a piece or two to them within the week.
